The New York City Public Schools Citywide Wellness Advisory Council convenes periodically to advise on and advocate for building public support for physical education, health education, food, nutrition, sustainability, and other interrelated wellness policies, programs and practices included in the NYC Public Schools Citywide Wellness Policy and in Wellness Policy annual reports.
The volunteer advisory council provides guidance to the NYC Public Schools' Office of School Wellness Programs on building stronger, quality health and physical education, and developing school communities that prioritize health and well-being and support these subject areas. In January 2023, NYC Public Schools launched a new Citywide Wellness Advisory Council, composed of Community and Citywide Education Councils (CCEC) members from all five boroughs, as well as a Student Wellness Advocates committee.
Similar to School Wellness Councils, the Citywide Wellness Advisory Council intends to represent all school levels (elementary and secondary schools). Along with council members, Citywide Wellness Advisory Council programming will invite physical education teachers, health education teachers, School Wellness Council champions, and other school health, mental health, social services, dining, and sustainability staff to participate.
